I am Martin Bernstein, an established and widely known Bay Area licensed Architect with offices in Palo Alto and San Francisco.

The focus of my practice is individual private residences and community buildings such as corporate venues, meeting centers, restaurants and other structures designed to meet particular institutional requirements.

It follows that my clients are diverse and include home owners and business people as well as cultural and religious boards and committees.

My architectural signature bears influence from the rich classical traditions of Italy and from Florence in particular. I am also well versed in contemporary and modern styles to meet the demands of each new project.

My portfolio ranges from small innovative design solutions all the way up to some very sizeable and significant new buildings. Scale is not such a critical factor for me when the scope exists for a truly original solution.

I am a sole practitioner and I work with a network of other specialized professionals able to bring all the necessary skills and experience to address the challenges of every project. When a client calls, I answer in person and I believe this is bedrock material for a solid architect/owner relationship.

Over the years I have developed good and positive relationships with local governmental agencies and this, I suggest, is a key criterion when selecting an architect.

In the broader field I am active in the community as a member of the Palo Alto Historic Resources Board, Past President of Palo Alto Stanford Heritage, and Past President of Los Altos Hills Historical Society. I lead architectural walking tours in the Palo Alto Professorville National Historic District, Downtown Palo Alto and Pacific Heights, San Francisco. I also provide Architectural Travel Drawing instruction.
